Hi, I am a repair tech and found by using your method that the steel threads on armature shaft will be damaged. Thayt is why I have the special tool created for this repair. It is the shape of an open end wrench but very thin. There is a flat side on armature shaft amd the tool holds shaft while removing drive coupling. And cause of this repair is overloading blender jar or removing jar before motor stops turning, thus shearing off drive prongs.

Would you happen to know, is that coupler what is otherwise known as a reciprocal clutch?

Using a screwdriver to pry the coupler off will likely damage your blender. Don't do it! You need to unscrew it by turning it clockwise (unlike a normal screw). There's another video posted which will show you how to do it. Good luck!
Using a screwdriver will not damage your machine. Removing the coupling the way we have shown is how KitchenAid recommends it should be done but of course there are other ways to do it. The base of the coupling is made out of aluminum and the shaft is steel so prying it off will not harm the thread of the motor shaft. If you have the link to the other video we are open to sharing how to repair all machines so please post it!
