I got my hands on the brand new Nikon SB-910 to do an unboxing and sniff test. This is not a review of this product but just an unboxing and a quick hands on.

This is probably one of the best Speedlights on the market. This is great for strobists and anyone looking to pick up a very powerful and functional flash for your nikon cameras.

  • Paul C. Buff's Einstein is light, Has a lot more power, plus a lot more features. for $500 + the vagabond mini $230 + 47" octabox $170. You have a way better system with better light quality and only a couple more dollars. $550 for a speedlight is to much unless you are a paparazzi.

  • @Antovegadotcom I fully agree, you can tell i started to get into that a little but brought it back to being about the flash. I would go studio light all the way.

  • gotta hate the on off switch...its awkard.. also prefer the older model doors..

you gotta do a test jarred.. i use sb700 but these 900s-910s have these iso options, aperture options etc which im curious about.

  • @kwaxkwax yea i can not believe how hard it was to operate.

  • The thermal shutdown issue in the SB-900 isn't a big deal if you turn it off. Then you just have to pay attention to how hot the flash gets if shooting a lot, which is no biggie. Nikon was very conservative w/ shutting down the 900's. For weddings, I carry an extra SB-900 (I have 4) with me and alternate if one is getting too hot....but shooting with an SD-9 battery pack has helped a little as well. I doubt I'll be upgrading to 910's anytime soon though....no point, really.

  • @drouleau I agree.

  • @JaredPolin Would you rather recommend using an umbrella or a soft box to pair with an of camera flash?

  • are you kidding me! this flashes menus and buttons are soo much better to use than my 580exII

  • i do onw 6 sb900 i yesterday i knew about this flash is it worth to sell my sb900 and get the new ones? did they solve the heating problem?

    thanx

  • Thanks for the hands on and looking forward to a review. I'm debating this purchase myself since I'm moving out of my studio setting, selling my monolights, and looking for something powerful and portable.

  • I'm looking for a new flash for my D700. I was looking at the SB-700, but also the SB-910 which i should be able to use with an Godox PB820 powerpack. I know the SB-910 is the newer/better flash, but also more pricey.

    What would be wise?

Btw, how are Nikon SB-700 and the SB-910 at weather sealing? Or can they not be used in rainy conditions?

  • Interesting, comparing the menu to my SB-900, it looks like they removed the option to change the illumination pattern of the flash (centre weighted / standard / even).

  • Love all the remarks in the video about "issues with the 900", just helps drive that used price down. Personally I've rarely had any issues with the SB-900 (have been using 3 of 'em for about 2 years and getting a 4th this week) and unless I'm blasting out full power pops doing high speed sync @ 1/4000th of a second, I've never hit the overheat warning.

  • how long does it take to shampoo your hair?

but i can figure a year of hair product you buy could cost more than SB-920, spank me if i am wrong.

  • @theraginggiblets Yep, it took me one time of my flash shutting off with the bride walking down the aisle (oops) to shut off the thermal shutdown feature. Now I keep at least 1 spare SB-900 on me during weddings....it only takes me 5 seconds to swap out a flash, so it's a non-issue. I use the Think Tank Modular system, and it's awesome for this type of work. Highly recommend it.
