On the evening of July 24th 2007, the Burj Dubai (now known as the Burj Khalifa) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates officially became The World's Tallest Building Connect me on Facebook! http://www.facebook.com/bruce.fenton

Dubai continues its amazing growth as an important factor in the transformation of the Middle East region, the Gulf and the Arab world. Numerous large projects continue in the region in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and other countries.

Burj Dubai is the centerpeice in a $20 billion US dollar business park called Bussiness Bay - it will include residential, office space and retail and is designed to create a vibrant downtown district.

The building will include the first Georgio Armani Hotel and many shopping, business and entertainment landmarks.

  • Nothing against the building. It's interesting as a technical achivement and I would like to visit it. But don't show it as a muslim pride thing because it was designed by western architects using western science and technology. In fact many western countries could afford that, it is simply they don't want to waste money on an unuseful thing like this.

oh and i hope i dont shock you, but there are christian arabs, jews, and any kind of religion.

im from lebanon but born in dubai and im quite proud to have this represent the arabs, you and who ever thumbed you up represent jealousy.

Not true, the builders may be from the local area. But the technology and architecture sure is from the Western world. Also western countries could afford, many of these towers. So that's just nonsense. (Well atleast.. a few countries in Europe could) But it is just more safe + less money to build smaller buildings. /fact

  • The building is obviously impressive, incredible, but I don't like the design or the oil money it represents, and if I had a few million dollars to buy an apartment anywhere in the world I wouldn't get one in that building! Would become awful riding a 100 story elevator every day and then having to drive miles from the building to get anywhere.

  • crash this building !

  • @HomeDelsGats nonsense, building a tower like this shows great accomplishment of a community, and it creates loads of jobs, as most builders are just from the area, and on top of that, I wouldn't be so sure that western countries could even afford such projects

  • @AgrivatedKillah I meant europeans and usa people.

  • @HomeDelsGats by western , do you just mean european/white?
