Most breeders shear alpacas on a table,it makes it less stressful for the alpaca, and easier to shear for the shearer and handlers.
we need to contain the alpaca whilst it is being shorn, as they have very quick reflexes, and if they jump the shearer could accidently go through tendons,
Alpacas are the best farm animal you can have, they are so delightful.

  • \They can be shorn on the ground also, but all handlers and shearers have to als squat, as the alpaca is still layed in the same position.Alpacas have tight skin unlike sheep who have loose skin, so we take the utmost care not to cut the alpaca whilst shearing.

  • the idea of the alpacas being shorn on a table is for their safety and for the handlers and shearers safety.

  • The utmost care is given when shering, as alpacas do have very quick responses, and can jump whilst shearing.

  • You can see that the alpaca is quite calm and relaxed, and they are happy yo get their fleece off in this heat.

  • The angle of the filming may be wrong, but we do not hold the nose or nostrils at all, the head is moved so that the fleece can be taken off, around the face.

  • He is not holding the alpacas nose so the alpaca can breath.

they can still breath and he is just placing the head in the right way so that the alpaca does not get cut by the shears.

  • that animal provides much, you could at least be a lil more respectful of it. poor thing, i've watched other alpaca shearing vids and none made that noise. the thing is petrified. some people just shouldnt own animals.

  • remember this is a big animal we are talking about, and is not like a dog that it will sit, and stand when you tell them to. these animals are quite big, kick, spit and very strong.

  • alpacas make a noise like that all the time, when they see something that could be dangerous, when they fight between each other. even when they sort of relaxed they make a hm hm hm sound. they are very vocal animals, sheep are not so vocal, when shearing alpacas, most shearers take their time which mean less cuts and being in a comfortable position makes it less stressful for a shearer thus making less stressful for an alpaca.

  • I know they arnt hurting it but the noise its making because its scared is heartbreaking.

  • I was waiting to see the table tilted again and the alpaca back on its feet.

  • so does the fleece have to come off all in one sheet? or is it just easier to have it done in one big clump so to speak?
