We got the myki....
It's not "as" bad as I thought it would be, but it definatly wasn't great.

We traveled on Zone 1 from Ormond Station to the city and back again after spending about 4 hours in the city and the fare cost for me was $1.47 (Conc).

I was happy that the card worked through my leather wallet and by the low fare cost.
The touch on and touch off times were not as bad as people have been saying.
~one second~ though you are standing there for a little while the overall touch on/touch off time isn't any longer than putting a metcard in the reader.

I didn't try my myki on a tram, though I am heading into the city today (It's currently 2:09 am) and I will make a video of me trying and hopefully touching on and off a tram reader.

Thanks for watching guys.
I read all your comments and if you would like to request a video of melbournes train/tram/bus network and its quirks please just ask.

Tahl.

  • Trains announce: "When travelling with a myki remember to top up before you travel, touch on and touch off". But this 3 year old kid on the train repeated the message with "f*** on and f*** off". He said it so loudly that everyone in the carriage heard it and laughed and the mother was so embarassed. I was so shocked that the 3 year old said that but I couldn't help myself but join in laughing.

  • how longh it took to get ur card, I'm still waiting 8days

  • dasicknt, people who use public transport on a regular basis know the problems are dirty, unreliable and unsafe stations/vehicles. Replacing the whole ticketing system for an obscene amount of money should have been the last priority, not the first. I'm a big guy but I've been threatened by crazy/drunk people several times in the last year - I can't imagine what it would be like for women and the elderly travelling alone or at night.

  • @zigi1231 haha you have a lot of crap in your wallet!! haah!!

  • by the tone of your voice you were hoping it would fail.

it scans quick, its easy, and you can unvalidate the ticket if you change your mind.

I dont understand why everyone is hating it. sure it was expensive and took awhile, but get over it.

  • it only takes 1 min to touch off not 10!!

  • Old software revision - the new revision works fine in all the languages. And, there is a 30 second delay before you can touch off and get the "Change of Mind" feature. That's to stop people with shaky hands accidentally touching on and off again accidentally.

LOL, I like how from your tone of voice you were expecting evering to fail big-time, but it actually all worked and was fast (except for the language thing).
