Sony DSC HX5v vs Panasonic DMC TZ10 ZS7 Video Test Part 7 Piedmont Park - Typical Day [720P].

Editorial Corrections:
1. In beginning of video under production notes there is a typo. At bottom it says Project rendered "1280x7200" 10Mbps. The resolution should read "1280x720", not "7200."

Production Notes:

Panasonic TZ10 (1280x720 Quicktime MOV Format):
1. Daytime white light streaking in sunlight.
2. Sharper video, higher contrast between objects.
3. Zooming restricted to 10x vs 16x to be fair to Sony HX5v's 10x limit. Can zoom in much more.
4. Audio is more robust than Sony.
5. Video still frame has nice clarity and resolution.

Sony HX5v (1280x720 H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Format):
1. Sony has 10x limit on focus vs. Pana 12/16x.
2. More shades of color, but not as vivid.
3. Image Stabilizer not as good as Panasonic.
4. No light streaking.

* Project rendered at 1280x7200 @ 10Mbps.

  • the light strikes are the only reason not to buy it :(

  • @Ralph123x The Sony is a nice camera, but the Lumix beats it due to its superior Leica lens. Anyone who is serious about their photo and video will carry a tripod or at least a lightweight monopod, so the image stabilization argument goes out the window. I would much rather have a camera that gets better sharpening natively than adding it via electronics or PP. In this case, Sony's "warm" equates to "blurry" by comparison.

    To each their own, though.

    Customer Reviews:

I bought this camera to replace my TZ5. The TZ5 is a great camera: awesome lens, easy to use, HD video, 3in high-res screen. The problem I had with the TZ5 is that it wasn't portable enough to `carry on me'. I finally made my rounds with the FX150 and got rid of my TZ5. No regrets! The FX150 fit the bill as a 'carry on me' camera. The ...

  • woow TY SO MUCH FOR OPEN MY EYES *-* b4 buy a camera

  • I am on a grand quest to find point and shoot cameras that shoot the best videos. Just when I thought the Fujifilm F550EXR's video looked good, I discovered the Panasonic Z and Sony H series.

Ultimately though, I found the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ150's video quality to be godly even against DLSRs. But it's $500 and I can get a DSLR for a bit more.

Can anyone suggest anything else or is it really just Panasonic and Sony the ones with the best video quality? Specific models will be appreciated.

  • I have a TZ10 and it's unbeatable in video quality. Just watch this clip I filmed at the Oxford University and you'll see how sharp it is and how dynamic the colors are: watch?v=3fokNUdUXro

If the light streaks are your argument for not getting this camera then you'd better re-think your priorities because with a little planning of your shots you need not get any 'blooming' as it is called.

    TZ10 FTW!! :)

  • Heres an very good example video of the quality!

  • TZ10 wins

  • thank you very good

  • Obviously the TZ10 wins hands down here.

  • No comparison, Sony shoots in 1080. I have compared all brands and Sony is easily the best HD video compact camera video on the market. Stills are another matter.
