  • Thanks a lot !!

I'm going to watch all your other suspension videos on CRST-channel and OTT to prepare a bit for the season and then I'll try out :-)

I think my downshifting is okay, I usually match the rev to support the clutch which works fine.

Pretty sure the rear tire is bouncing (I can see it on my onboard videos) therefore the chain clatters.

I guess it's up to a bad setup of my bike (an old CBR600F) and the oil is way too old. It works great on street, but not for trackday. Gonna fix it

  • The next thing to look at is geometry. If there's too much weight on the front, that can induce rear tire hop under breaking. Several parts to that issue, so do one at a time:- fork position, fork preload, fork compression, fork rebound and rear shock rebound. May be one or several of these creating the problem.

  • hey dave

in this case, when do i have to add preload and when compression damping? and why?

btw i have a similar problem. so my rear tyre wiggles and jumps when i'm hitting the brakes hard. besides the chain is clattering even without any shifting ...what does THAT mean?

nevertheless i will start this year with an initial setup, as i've learned from your GREAT videos and then i will try out some settings.

hopefully summer comes soon here in germany .. I WANNA RIDE !!! ;-)

  • Thanks for the kind words. Make sure the fork and shock fluid is new at the start of the season and change the fork oil mid season.

A zip tie will tell you if you are running out of travel. If so, add preload to get the zip tie 10mm off the axle casting (check where your mechanical bottom out is). Once done with this play with compression for brakes and feel going into the corner.

Chain clatter is bad down shifting. Brake hard, then downshift. Be nice to the clutch!
