@SushiJoe Bette's song is 2000, and when was MacColl's?

Great job, Bette!

This is Kirsty McColl's song. She wrote it, she sang it better! Taken a british woman who died in a terrible car accident not long ago's song and paying the royalities to perform is sick and oppertunitistic. Same on you Bette; You are better than that.

I never liked Bette as much as I do now : )

"No le gusta caminar, no puede montar a caballo, ¿Cómo se puede bailar? Es un Escándalo!" Love you, Bette!

I don't know for sure, but I assume that the line about the Englishman who wanted her to walk on his back is a reference to "The Jeffersons." They had an English neighbor with a bad back who occasionally would ask George to walk on his back.

@ladyladidah Hey, thanks for sharing the link to the Camille version of "....These Shoes" - I like it - though I still likes Kirsty's original version better.....
-
ooohhhh - I'm going with the general consensus on this one - Kirsty's version is IT - This doesn't cut it.....

@BlueSmurf10 Im not a fan of her changing the lyrics and ad libbing either.

hey CHECK OUT CAMILLE O'SULLIVAN ON LATER WITH JOOLS HOLLAND... AND SEE THE DEFINITIVE VERSION... AND I SHOULD KNOW AS I SAW THIS LADY LIVE.... DO YOURSELVES A FAVOUR..

I love Bette Midler but this doesn't match up to the original for me. Part of Kirsty MacColl's charm was that she was this unassuming woman who sang casually about sitting in South American bars, rolling her eyes over sleazy men. Bette is just that bit too bombastic for this song.
