Concerns over Chinese Military Buildup

Today's top story... a senior U.S. Navy officer is playing down tensions between the U.S. and Chinese naval fleets. Heres more from Beijing.
In a news conference on Sunday, U.S. Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Gary Roughead said that safety and following the laws on the open sea are very important. His comments come following a recent incident between Chinese vessels and U.S. ship the Impeccable.

[Adm. Gary Roughead, Chief, U.S. Naval Operations]:
"With regard to the Impeccable, as I mentioned, it's important that we adhere to international law, even though there may be some different interpretations. We must continue to operate in accordance with the rules of the road, that all mariners accept and understand, and most importantly that we operate safely so as not to jeopardize the safety of our men and women."

Tensions between the United States and China rose last month over the incident in the South China Sea. During the conflict five Chinese ships had an unfriendly meeting with the U.S. Navy surveillance vessel the Impeccable.

The United States says its ship was in international waters. But Beijing disagrees, calling the move an act against its sovereignty.

The United States says that China's increased military spending lacks transparency, charges Beijing denies.

This year's U.S. Defense Department annual report on Chinas military buildup says Beijing is improving its nuclear, space and cyber warfare capabilities.

Foreign vessels from 15 countries arrived in China to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese PLA Navy. Also, officials from 29 nations attend the celebration, including the the navy commander chief of Russia, and US chief of naval operations.

Japan is not invited.

Chinese in Mainland and Taiwan want to develop their country in peaceful and friendly way. This is the best way of stable development and getting the respects of other countries and the World. But the PRC goverment don't want to do so. Just talking, not doing. They are selfish

@Isreal4realz The milk factory was owned by New Zealand. After the incident, New Zealand retreated all the investment. I am surprised, New Zealand produced milk but invested in China and then the milk appeared. Do you know some Chinese are very selfish people, when you give money and they will do anything for you!!! Too much people, just some are black sheep and used by foreigners, most Chinese loved their motherland and would not do this thing.

@cabraden1 Sorry I had to jump in even though you and Supra16 were going great. But one difference Supra got on you is Tibet (I know you think they are independent) and Spratley Islands already are under Chinese control. Disputed, but under Chinese control. With the new Dong Feng-21 Carrier killers which China developed (92.3% accuracy in hitting high speed moving naval targets) Taiwan will not stand a chance. So that is 3 China can attain with no resistance. Iraq and Afghanistan?.........

War between China and the US wouldn't be good for either side. They're doing good business, US is getting cheap products and China is making good money selling those products. War would throw that all away, and I can't see what they'd possibly hope to achieve through warfare right now.
