Hahahahahaha yeah I was mostly getting at how Rostropovich got the energy from the orchestra that he really needed. No one can be submissive, even when playing under a soloist, when such intensity is needed. Reading my post again showed some...lack of clarity let's say :P
Rostropovich's recording is truly what Shostakovich wanted. I know many people will more appreciate Hilary Hahn's less gritty interpretation, but I don't think it truly captures the spirit of the music. Bravissimo! (If only I could do those chromatic glisses at the end...everyone else cheats though, so it's all good :D)
