Maggie sure was cute! Clean and natural. You couldn't pay me enough to live in NYC.

This was the first time I watched this that I realized Joel actually died. I love this show.

is this the same guy playing joel at the start of the series? doesn't look like it. its freakin unfair that joel has to leave beautiful alaska for a dump like new york, the sky full of buildings, dirty streets, and high crime rates (no offense to those who live in ny), and the woman of his dreams maggie :( i guess this is the meaning of pathos, but you know what I wouldnt have minded the cliche even if he had stayed in alaska.... but if this is how its meant to be.... :( (tears falling)....

Haha! Joel's postcard is addressed to Maggie at Zip Code 99729 ~ which is really Cantwell, AK (in Denali county). Population 245, with 338 houses spread over 4,680 square miles.

Nothing will ever replace this show for me. It was the ultimate goal TV was invented for. It was what every show wanted to be. If all shows were as good as Northern Exposure was, none of us would ever leave our homes; families would sit and laugh together, hum the theme song around the house, build Trebuchets to throw pianos around for fun, and raise antler-less Moose in our yards. The world would love us and Alaska would become the retirement center of the planet.

There may have been episodes afterwards but for me this is the end of Northern Exposure. Everything that came after was just to fulfill their obligations.

Overall, I think the point is that Joel is returning to NYC as a changed man, having gone through a transformation while in Alaska, and he is now seeing New York in a more enlightened way and will be able to impart what he has learned for the rest of his life within his home state. His time in Alaska has been one of the best experiences of his life. Certainly it has been for the history of television.
