  • hackett is the best long distance swimmer ever!

  • How anyone can swim like that for so long is almost unbeleivable. Great vid.

  • is there anyone who has the video from above the water?

  • I heard many times that front quadrant swimming is bad if you want to swim fast, but this video shows that this style is definitively excellent for long distances. I am a recreational swimmer and really like this video to see the technique

  • Grant Hackett is just amazing. He did our country proud.

  • @scrumpymanjack Yes. You don't use your legs for most of the distance events at all because the kick is less efficient than the pull. So to preserve energy they just use their arms until the last 100 or so when they bring in their legs for a sprint finish if they have anything left.

  • Unreal he absolutely dominated it from the beginning.

  • Could someone please explain to me the thing with the kick? After first few hundred meters, he sort of slows the kick right down so that sometimes it is almost as if his legs were just trailing in the water like a rudder or something. Is that because it just uses too much energy to kick all the time over such a long distance? Thanks.

  • @guspopov I too respect your opinion. Lets just say it would have been some race, i just think all credit should go to hackett when i comes to the 1500m. Great to see the thorpey back in action come london though. Will be great to watch, i have a feeling he may do something very special.

  • @guspopov it,s your opinion and i respect it. in my opinion if thorpe had swum 1500 he had beaten hackett easyly...take a look at the 800...thorpe swam 800 in only a little times and hackett was always beaten by thorpe in that races in 800....so if thorpe had trained 1500 im sure he had done 14:25 or 14:30 in 1500 free style...

  • @guspopov Also i belive hackett did beat thorpe in the 1999 FINA Short Course World Championships 400m. Thorpe was the superior swimmer from 100-800 but hackett is the champion of 1500m and still is.

  • @guspopov look thorpe is a legend and did beat him at all other lenghts. How ever thorpe did not swim 1500m he was close to doing so in 2001 but never did instead focusing on the 100/200/400 & 800, but my point is he would not beat hackett at 1500m. End of Story.
