To answer your question in regards to wanting to live longer being greedy:
Is an aging person who is starving to death greedy in wanting to eat in order to live longer?
Is a person who is aging to death greedy in wanting some health in order to live longer?
To both I say, no. Should I make it, I am not planning to be in a frail, suffering, aging body when I'm over 120. Rejuvenation my friend. To make cells young again, remove damage would be the target. This is within our grasp.

In regards to the terms of "immortalist" and "deathist", please see the "immortalist philosophy" @ imminst (dot) org
The immortalist philosophy is based upon the idea that humans only have one life and one chance to live. There are no alternative states to the current state other than oblivion. Thus, what we experience now and the life we have now is the only alternative.

Life and intelligence must adapt, expand and exponentially become. The Universe must breathe life and intelligence onto itself. Inanimate matter will not remain so for long.
The journey of life is full of adventure. It is up to us to want to enjoy it. Those who wish to return to becoming inanimate matter, may do so. In time, their atoms will be put to good use. There are many perils in this evolutionary journey, but should life make it, we'll see to it that the Universe, as a whole, wakes up.

Dear @smashas:
I do understand where you're coming from and why you think it is greedy. But there is nothing greedy in wanting to live, if you live a good life.
There are over 4x10^79 atoms in the visible Universe! Most matter is mostly completely inanimate and has remained so for billions of years. As living matter, we are an exception. I see the emergence of life as a great evolutionary leap, and I treasure this immensely, more than my own life. It must continue to expand, learn and evolve.

I love cake. I think your logic is flawed when you say:
"Wanting to live indefinitely is taking life for granted"
I do not agree. I'd say:
Wanting to die and wanting others to want to die, is to take life for granted!

Stars just like our sun die everyday-does that make you want to stop living, today? Humanity has learned that there are worlds, countless planetary systems and stars in billions of galaxies, in our expanding universe. As single-celled organisms we didn't stay in our pond forever. As multi-celled organisms we didn't stay bound to our original habitat. As homo-sapiens sapiens we didn't stay in Africa, nor consider it the only continent. Today we don't think Earth will be our only planet.
-
Obviously what I meant was I'd rather die than see the end of the world, the death of the sun etc. I would never want to live forever or even into my hundreds. If you still age then you will still become frail and old and need assistance to do things. I do want to live, but I don't want to have my cake and eat it too. Wanting to live indefinitely IS taking life for granted. It's greedy.

You said you would rather "die the worst possible death than know you'd see the end of everything".
Yet, subjectively, when you die, that's it dude. That's the very end of everything for you right there. Live good. Make it count.
My wanting to live should assure you that I don't take my life for granted.
Note: We'll deal with resources, as we have in the past. Space is FULL of resources, btw, and nanotechnology/molecular manufacturing holds great promise for dealing with resources.
