Hungry Beast reports on the pacific ocean garbage dump - with help of photographer Chris Jordon. North East of Hawaii human debris from around the pacific gathers in the ocean and on the shores of midway atoll. The affects of this pollution is devastating to the bird and marine population.

Just an update to all those environmentally concerned posters on this thread. In an effort to help this situ I flew to the area mentioned in this vid personally to scope out the situ. I didn't find any birds with plastic-distended bellies or plastic sea but I did manage to squash several rare sea turtles with my ATV. I made soup, it tasted lousy, we threw it away.

@redrabbit65 You need to get an education. I am a diver of 37 years and there is no place I go in any of the world's ocean without seeing the waste of humans. Get your diving certificate and go see for yourself before you condemn those of us that are there and see it every day.

I have seen a lot of documentation of the Pacific Gyre. I am a pro videographer and trust the images and the people I have met who shot them. Get out there for yourself and see.

There are actually 5 main gyres in the world's oceans. Keep drinking your bottled water at a price that is more than gasoline. Stop using disposable items like lighters. Bring your own bags to the grocery store, leave packaging from items you buy right at the cashier (and make a point of holding up the line), we pay for all of this waste in the products we buy. There are better ways, use them.

I had to find a clip about this after just reading about it on the Yahoo news feed. This is seriously fucked up. This has been going on for a number of years, and until now, it's becoming world news. I can foresee a major global catastrophe if nothing is done about this now before it gets way out of hand to do anything about it. It's going to take global effort to clean this ugly horrible mess :-/

This will be the name of the Pacific after we are done with it, a huge floating country that will contain every plastic ever made by humans. And guess what? When that day comes it will be the end of biologic life in the Pacific, just a huge desert of nothing as the amount of plastic keep growing
