On May 2nd in Fort Worth, Texas, the southwest side of town got hit HARD by a straight line wind-aided rain storm. After the worst of it was over, the wind part, I was then able to go out onto my balcony and shoot video, using my Canon Powershot I2 IS digicam, of the flooded street out front and the swollen creek out back. I've lived here for 14 years and it had never rained like it did that day. A tree on the median out in the street was snapped off by the 70-80 mph straight line wind. And the flash flood rains and straight line winds damaged many houses and businesses, including two gas stations, a Lowe's hardware store, and downed many, many trees, a lot of them of the very large, thick variety. Power at my place was out from 6 p.m., right after the storm hit, until 2:55 a.m. Other folks were still without power as of May 4th. And this is an e-mail I wrote to some of my buddies, "Man, it stormed like a bitch here. I took a couple of movies of it and shot some photos behind my screen door of the storm as it hit and hit hard using my Nikon D50. That creek out back? Man, it was almost to the top! Meaning, it went from it's normal 5 inches deep to about 30 feet and it was RUSHING like a wild river. The street out front? FLOODED. Didn't matter to people driving in the shit. They just plowed right through it. That water was OVER the median in the middle of the street, covered it completely, and up into this place's front yard area a few feet. Wind like crazy. 70-80 mph. I thot the fucking roof was gonna fly off. Of course, the power went out around 6 or so. This is the worst storm where I live in the entire time I've been living here, which is over 14 years now. The power came back on at 2:55 this morning. Once the power fired back up, and after Bukey had awoken me just a few seconds before it did when she puked, I went ahead and got up and turned on the computer and looked at my e-mail before going to work at 5:30 a.m."

  • you think that was bad! I live in grapevine and we just got power back this morning. We got hit hard.

  • That's what electricity deregulation does for Texas. We have TXU here and it was Oncor customers who were in the dark the longest. Way to go Gov. Good Hair, making life more expensive and less happy for all Texans all the time. Glad you got your power back on. Oncor should refund everyone what they lost in food, time, work, etc. Think they'd do that? Hell, no. But I'm sure their CEO will get a big bonus for the long power outage.
