  • This is absolutely the best version of this prelude. Furtwangler made it sound like a real storm, with a lot of tension and fear..dramatic.. The best conductor for Wagners music.

  • @ArchiducDeBelgrade people often say they close their eyes once the curtain goes up, afraid of some directorial horror. i don't, but if i'd heard Furtwangler conduct this i definitely would. i just don't imagine anyone replicating the terror of fleeing your enemies such as he does with this piece. his prelude to act 2 of siegfried is another example-no stage dragon could be scarier
