This is a video I made for the Fraser Institute's video contest. The theme this year is "The Nanny State: Is Government Regulation Threatening Your Personal Freedom?"
This is a song I wrote in response to the question above.
Lyrics:
I know you might not be aware of how things ought to be
Most people might not understand the market that is free
But government intervenes with me and my well being
Let's start off simple I can show you supply and demand
The government can't quite accomplish what the market can
They push the price to the sky, or down to the ground
When I take a look at our country now
I think that there's gotta be a way somehow
That we can stop all this intervention
Even when they seem to have the best intentions
It just doesn't work out like it should
It seems to make bad out of what's good
And I'd like to move to a simpler time
Where I can be sure what's mine is mine
But that hasn't happened
With all these changes comes the increased possibility
That we might lose some of the things we gain when we are free
They choose what's right and what's wrong for us, as if we can't decide
I understand they simply think it's for our benefit
But at what point does it become intrusion and unfit?
That's why a market that's free is the right one for me
When I take a look at our country now
I think that there's gotta be a way somehow
That we can stop all this intervention
Even when they seem to have the best intentions
It just doesn't work out like it should
It seems to make bad out of what's good
And I'd like to move to a simpler time
Where I can be sure what's mine is mine
But that hasn't happened, no
So let's make it happen
