@todnwen 2 strokes are definitely quieter, or at least the sound doesnt carry as far but I dont think they are cleaner. The 2 stroke burns gas and oil together. Burning oil just cant be cleaner than burning just gas, although I did hear that some of the companies are starting to realize that with the current economic situation people just cant afford the 4 strokes and are working on a more eco friendly 2 stroke. lets keep our fingers crossed!

and there are sound and emissions restrictions. there's a perception that 2 strokes are "louder" and "dirtier", but i'm not so sure about it.
so you can also blame the tree-hugging environmentalists for the transition.

@loganixon There not banned, but a 125 cc has to run in the 250 class and a 250 2 stroke has to run in the 450 class. This is because of some old AMA rule the ruffuse to change.
Companys pay riders to ride 4 strokes because they want people buying them because when it breaks, its more money into there pocket.
