I cover the end of "Chapter 9: Escaping the Ishimura" in this video. This video begins right before the boss fight at the end of this Chapter.

Nate's actions right before the boss fight really frustrate me. If only he continued jumping to the airlock (instead of slowly hobbling forward), he probably would have been able to avoid the entire confrontation all together. It feels so much like a boss fight for the sake of a boss fight (perfectly in line with Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/GiantSpaceFleaFromNowhere) put near the end of the game. It's especially weird since Chapter 10 lacks a boss fight, as that makes this the final boss of the game. There is no in-game foreshadowing whatsoever. I think we can all agree with Nathan's response of: "Ahhh! What the fuck!?"

Though I primarily used the Contact Beam for the first boss back in Chapter 6, I find that the Pulse Rifle is much better for this boss. It's easier to hit the pustules on the tentacles and inside the creature's esophagus with the Pulse Rifle. The Plasma Cutter is alright in this instance, but I still prefer the Pulse Rifle. Whatever the case is, I just hope you're not using the Rivet Gun. I had to use the Rivet Gun (because I ran out of ammunition for everything else) the first time I played this Chapter, and the boss fight was agonizingly slow, so I definitely recommend having some other long-range Weapon ready for this battle.

If you want to converse ammunition, you can use the Rivet Gun for the pustules inside the creature's esophagus, but properly aimed and triggered Pulse Rifle shots only consume one round, so it isn't necessary.

What you have to do in the last sequence of the Chapter is not immediately intuitive. My first time through, I tried using the Plasma Cutter, as it seemed like the most logical option. After failing with that and various other Weapons, the game finally gave a strong hint towards what I was supposed to use. I guess they did it the way they did to make it possible to finish the sequence even if you ran out of ammunition (though even then the Rivet Gun could still work).

Thus ends Chapter 9, the longest Chapter in (and the climax of) the game. Chapter 10 is another short one like Chapter 8, but it serves as a respectable challenge on the Impossible difficulty mode.

  • 2:27 uh oh. ive seen enough tentacle hentai to know where this is going

  • @sperznaz586 Personally, I think the near-vaginal "mouth" of the creature is more unsettling than the tentacles.

  • @ururugi Nate's one of the only likable human characters in all of the Dead Space games, so that's probably why.

  • MOTHER FUCKEEEEEEEER!!!

  • @ururugi Yeah, I forgot about Sam. Too bad he went insane and died after his fifteen minutes of fame as he also could have been an interesting character to follow.

  • @IGIPNP

    He is.

I mean, until DS2 we really couldn't sympathize too much with Isaac since he never spoke. Hammond was just shouting orders, Kendra was a bitch, Nicole was a ghost, Dr. Mercer was an ass, Dr. Kyne was nuts, Weller was a prick, there was always something off about Eckhart, Lexine was always getting into trouble and needing saving, and everyone else got about five minutes of screen time before biting the dust. I felt a little bad for Sam, but otherwise yeah, Nate all the way.

  • @IGIPNP

Yeah. Not going to lie; Nate's become my favourite character in the series (I like him more than Isaac even though Isaac is pretty awesome as well) so I'm bummed that he died.

  • @ururugi All the more sad that he doesn't return in Severed and is apparently considered a confirmed death.

  • @IGIPNP

I agree. Sometimes actors miss the boat when it comes to that emotional of a performance (my only real complaint about Heather Morris in Silent Hill 3) Joseph May is obviously very talented.

  • @ururugi I think the way he screams it is pretty chilling. It impresses me that the voice actor replicated the anguish so well.
