Heavy Vee was born Vanessa Asbury in New Jersey. As a child, Vanessa expressed her talent whenever she could, either at local talent shows, or just at home, clowning in front of family members. Perhaps her comical side came from her father, comedian Willie Asbury. After a move to Newark, New Jersey, her mother worked two jobs and struggled to raise two daughters as a single parent. Little Vanessa didn't let the family's lack of money stop her from performing. She spent most of her time in her room either practicing dance moves with her sister Valinda, or coming up with rhymes to express her daily emotions. She was inspired by Hip Hop artists that "kept it real" like Lil' Kim, Missy Elliot, Biggie Smalls, Tupac, and Salt n Pepa. When Vanessa turned 15, she gained the confidence to share her own songs with others and booked her first ever live performance at a local steak house in Jersey. From these humble beginnings, Heavy Vee was born! Heavy Vee would like to thank God, her sister Valinda who has always helped with her dance moves and keeping her on track, her close friends for always encouraging her to keep writing and especially, her Mom for always being there for support and transportation! Heavy Vee aka Nessa Ness plans to make a big impact towards the hip hop game and music industry with her lyrics and her poppin' dance skills. She says "The number one thing on my list is to bring back real hip hop music to the industry!!" Larger than life with a talent to match, Heavy Vee wants to represent for the big girls as well as boys worldwide and wants them to know that if they dream it, they can do it! Like Mo'nique says, "Big is now IN."
