I have competed in forensics tournaments in the Pacific northwest, and the speeches that win seem to break all the rules you laid out for ADS speeches. My teammate won with a speech about politics, and many of the winners make many casual jokes and one liners. Many of the topics are often controversial as well.

my suggestion on an 'after dinner speech' in a speech class would be to come up with a personal story that takes a few minutes to relate, and then continue with some commentary on what you learned from it, how it affected you, what it meant to you...something like that. In a class situation, I presume you're on a fairly tight time schedule, so you may not have a lot of time for anything else. Best of luck!!

I'm having to do one tomorrow in my speech class. I can't seem to find any examples of this. I keep hearing what it is, but no one to show me an outline to go by or how to start out my intro. I'm really confused!
