Congressman Paul Ryan speaks on the floor of the House of Represenatives in opposition to H.R. 3221. This flawed housing bill serves as a bailout for big banks, mortgage lenders, and shareholders of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Ryan argues, "I represent taxpayers, not shareholders."

Fannie and Freddie remain for-profit corporations but still enjoy a Federal guarantee at the taxpayers' expense against any risk of loss. Congress only aggrevated this fundamental problem with today's bailout.

  • Fannie an Freddie shoud ne eliminated and welfare should be cut. ROMNEY - RYAN 2012!

  • you're obviously influenced by MSM propaganda. Excessive oversight caused this. The government intervened too much in the business of Freddie and Fannie, started telling them to be more lax on who they loan to, and subsidized those operations. When the Republicans tried to pass stronger and more effective regulation of Fannie and Freddie, every democrat on the banking committee voted to block the bill from reaching the floor. Look at where the lobby money goes, to the Democrats.

  • Too late guys. Your hero President Bush just signed the bill. I would like to have seen him veto it, but that would have taken too much guts.

Cheer up everyone, from what I hear, this bill is just a feel-good bill that won't do half the things people say it will.

  • This is the FED, Who is the fed??? stop and take back this country, Try loaning money from the Gov't intrest free, Kennedy tryied to

  • Paul Ryan, you are my hero...but you better start wearing a kevlar helmet.

  • They gutted federal oversight of everything from food safety to banking, and now after 6 years, they decide they're going to behave like responsible government officials? It's too late guys. The horses are out of the barn. The pundits are right, when the problem has become as big as it is, you can't let them fail without depression/currency crisis.
