As of recent times the Indian and Pakistan archaelogy surveys have been digging up settlements in excess of 5000BC eg Rakhigarhi and Mehrgarh

It maybe also useful to know that no Indian literature I know of speak of an invading force in 3500BC - 2800BC thats fact (this is roughly 2000 years before Max Mullers theory of a 1500BC Aryan invasion of India). Many holy Indian cites even if to be considered Aryan are within South Asia and southern Tibet eg (Mt Shiva, Lake Kali). No holy site I know of has been ascribed to places far away in Russia or central Asia for that matter. Hope this helps takecare

Hi ABWatt nice map of India. By the way I am somewhat suprised that Aryan theory is still awash. It maybe useful to know that this very theory was presented by Max Muller a german in the mid 1850's and the invasion was fixed to the biblical time scale. The discovery of the Indus civilisation predating that of biblical time put the theory in hot water. Archaeologist such as James Schaeffer and indologists Dr Frawley and Stephen Knapp debunk this theory after all this is 18th century material.

also, you have misrepresented info about caste system....pls if you want to learn about hinduism, see interview of DR.subramania swamy on hinduism or read complete works of swami vivekananda

Aryan invasion theory has been discarded, b/c DNA result do not support it. Theory was invented by british to divide indian indepence movement. Rama and krishna, both were born in India, both talk about verna (caste system), how could they be aryan then? There is no mention of word aryan anywhere in vedic scripture. Yoga comes from yogasutras (purans scripture-part of Hinduism). I do not understand, why are u spreading such false information? Please do your research.

@ABWatt you should find some reliable blogs and websites instead of the textbooks

@ABWatt the problem with schools is they make everything too general. I don't think this should be part of the school curriculum until a later grade.
The Aryans called themselves Arya they imported the Sanskrit language into Pakistan. About 5 centuries later the close cousins of the Indo-Aryans the Iranic peoples arrived. The Vedic civilization was created by the Aryans of the banks of Pakistan. The river was sacred to the Indo-Aryans due to it's water resources. Indo-Aryans spoke Indo-Aryan languages of the Indo-European family while the Iranic peoples spoke Iranic languages. languages in kashmir are Dardic languages.

@LordNadir1 Thanks for helping add to the information here. I use these with my students, and it's clear that our textbooks don't do justice to the broad range of information that historians really have available. It's a 2-3 page overview of everything between the "Arya Invasions and the Mongol sack of Delhi in the 1300s." Not very accurate or very specific.

What program are you using for this? It looks like a Microsoft program (something the equivalent to Adobe Illustrator).

@lucypunch Thanks for the comment. It's actually not really meant for doing anything of the kind. This is the software that comes with a Mimio Interactive Whiteboard (IWB), called Mimio Notebook. It's not particularly good at making videos, but when I combine it with Jing Pro, from TechSmith I do OK.

There are some new theories suggesting that Indus civilization itself might have been an (aryan) civilization. Aryan culture actually streched from what is now Russia all the way to, afghanistan, pakistan and northern india. one has to keep in mind that not all of (todays) India was effected by the aryans, Many indians from the east (bengal) and south india just adopted their culture, Only northern indians like punjabies would have been effected and all of modern pakistan was effected

@annie19645 Thanks for the comment! As a sixth grade teacher, I usually work with class materials that are several years, if not decades, behind the "latest information" or the "newest theories". I appreciate that you took the time to correct my understanding, and that you wrote something that may help my students understand this matter in the future.
Thanks again!
