As a breast cancer nurse navigator part of Dottye Wodogazas job at the Palmetto Health Breast Center is to educate the public regarding the importance of early detection. This often entails teaching groups about screening guidelines and recommendations for early detection.
Since Dottye often speaks to mixed gender audiences, she found that some people feel a bit uncomfortable in discussing the topic of breast health. Dottye decided to write a couple of breast raps to lighten the mood of the audience and at the same time to get their attention regarding this important topic. She has found that this really works!
Dottye does the rap I Don't Do My BSE, in the beginning of the educational session before she teaches the proper technique of doing a self-exam. Then, she raps it up with the "3 Things" rap to help them remember what three things can help ensure the early detection of breast cancer. Dottye likes the fact that she starts off with a laugh and ends with a laugh, and hopefully everyone leaves with more knowledge and a new commitment to early detection! She also hopes that they will tell a friend about the crazy nurse that did a rap about early detection and spur the friend to get screened. Dottye is rapping with staff from the Palmetto Health Breast Center.
Very informative video.
