A few days ago I saw a video of the new Ubuntu HUD (HeadUpDisplay).
After watching it I wanted to create somthing similar using Qt and Qt Quick.

After a day of hacking I came up with the poorHud library.
(note: I do not blur the HUD background, because my pc is to slow)

It is a library which enables every QMainWindow based app to have its own HUD.

The following two steps are all that is needed to enable the HUD:

1.) Link against the lib: add -lpoorHud to your .pro file
2.) Add the following line in a suitable place of your sources: PoorHud* hud = new PoorHud(&w);
3.) enjoy =)

For the screencast I enabled a HUD for the qt browser "arora".

A minimalistic example on how to add the hud to your app:

int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{ QApplication a(argc, argv); MainWindow w; PoorHud* hud = new PoorHud(&w); w.show(); return a.exec();
}
