I find it very sad that there are not FAR more people looking at and commenting on this video.
Betty Carter was a marvel, a genius, and one of the people who really tried to keep Jazz alive.
I won't look myself, because I don't want to become ill, but I'll bet that any Brittany Spears video on here has 1000's of viewers and comments on it.
Wake up, children -- THIS is what a REAL singer sounds like ~

She is bad (as in good). The notes she finds, hits, and hears are amazing to me. I would climb out on that vocal tree and break branches from my vocal fall. I am not well versed in her music, which means I have some music shopping to do in order to catch up.

Amazing vocal talent. I consider her to be one of the great jazz female singers of our time.

NEVeR, ever, never - that's what she said about giving this up - you might as well have asked James Brown the same question. Really - is there anything not to love about Betty Carter?

I fell in love with Betty Carter's voice; her great contemporary 'jazz deconstructions' -the way she slides down 'til she's holding a note that is perfectly dissonant: falling way flat of the tonic; she really knew how to 'blue' her notes. (Leonard Bernstein once stated that what makes 'jazz' unique is the characteristic "bluing"(flattening) of the seventh interval, so that it sits a full tone away from the tonic--not a semi-tone--like in classical music)

Anybody got a planet with a Betty Carter - but no poverty?
And no wars, which serve to make only more poverties?
And if so - can I be abducted there?
Stanton T. Freidman? Who's got my back?
