  • Thanks for giving me the heads up on how its gonna snow out here. My husband, kids and I just been here for 3 weeks now. We drove from 11 hours from Yokosuka Navy Base. So it was cool to see what was beyond Tokyo. We had a heads up it snows like crazy here..Ive never lived in snow. But thanks for sharing this video as I see its beautiful. Does many people around Main base tend to drive or walk during the snowy months?

  • Hi there, Welcome to Misawa :-) Actually yesterday made it one year that we've been here. We had flown into Tokyo then took the airport shuttle to Haneda Airport (about 30 mins from Tokyo), then JAL to Misawa, it was a lonnnng day. Well, as for you not ever living around snow, you're gonna be tested here for sure. You ready --- we had 130 inches of snow this winter, unbelievable!

  • You would just go to bed sometimes, wake up and there's a couple inches of snow, or how about having a blizzard in the middle of the day, sometimes it might be sunny next thing you know there's flurries or some kinda snow action out there, lol. Thanksgiving day had about 1 foot of snow, trust me, I grew up in the caribbean (Trinidad) and then moved to Baltimore, so coming from all tropical in Trinidad and then slight snow in Baltimore to MAJOR snow over here, yeah, it was something, lol

  • Oh also, no matter how much snow, nothing shuts down, everyone goes about their business, definitely you can't walk to much if there's alot of snow, they do clean the sidewalks early in the morning, so that's a plus, and people drive no matter what. Snowploughs plough the roads on base, off-base is another story, they do not plough the roads ever. So you're just driving over the snow back and forth, but the Japanese people are so used to that, it's not a big deal at all for them.

  • Other than that, we like it here, it's nice and quiet, huge change coming from a big city, but it's a good thing. I think you'll like it also, great place for families, and there'll be lots of things to do since the weather is getting nicer. Definitely get out there and do as much as you can outdoors, taking trips right around the area or hook up with ITT. Well I've written a book here to you, lol If you need to know anything else, let me know, I'll be glad to help :-)

  • Hate to disagree, but I was stationed at Misawa Air Base from 1984-1988 and hated it! Worst tour of my 20 year career.

  • I was at Misawa between 88-92, had a great time in Japan.

  • Misawa is AWESOME!! I miss it so much! After you go back to to the states for a year you will be begging to go back... enjoy it 97-05, 35 MXS trying to get back

  • We lived in Misawa for 9 years and 2 months. I have three boys who were all born there. We left the very last day of November 07. That was a sad day for us. We miss it terribly. I appreciate seeing your videos. :)

  • We just missed this snow, we returned from visiting our kids on Nov. 14th. Looks like you are in the same housing area.
