This is a video of the hike to Avalanche Lake in Glacier National Park on August 5, 2011. The hike starts just a few miles from the west entrance to the park, and is about 4.2 miles round trip with a vertical rise of 500 feet. Those are the statistics from the trail signs: My dad and I thought we MUST have gone a bit further and higher than that!
