@critch1901 Sort of.... I believe that the Drifters were already pretty big in the USA, and when Cliff and gang wanted to hit the American market they were forced to change the name.

@critch1901 @critch1901 The American group did not "appear on the scene" they were the scene. The American Drifters were around long before Cliff & the Drifters. The original group was form as a backup for Clyde McPhatter. Their first hit was Money Honey when Cliff has also done a cover of.

The Shadows were called the Drifters until the USA group appeared on the scene so they changed their name to the Shadows.
