Dua, an Asian small-clawed otter at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, plays the piano as a behind-the-scenes enrichment. This activity was created to give Dua something interesting to do and extend his feeding time, while showing off his species dexterity. You can learn more by visiting http://www.wildaboutotters.com.

  • This was created as a behind-the-scenes “enrichment.” Our husbandry staff created this activity to give Dua something interesting to do, extend his feeding time and make use of his incredible dexterity. The goal is to keep the animals healthy and stimulated!

  • @sports89man7 i actually lol'd really hard at this. great point, sportsman.

  • @ouchlasers

That would have confused him. He played it to get the treat, he would have become uniterested if they didn't reward him

  • Crikey, that otter is better than me at piano o.O

  • OTTER WANTS SYNTH

  • This is a smart otter! Around 0:55, you can see him thinking, "Hmmm, maybe I don't have to work so hard for this food...*ding*..."

  • awww so cute! I love otter paws! Used to work with them at SeaWorld and this really brought me back! Great enrichment idea!

  • This could be made into a CD called "Otter Jazz" and proceeds from the sale could go toward otter-related conservation efforts...
