Before I posted the fight against the Dragon God calling it the 'final' battle since it seemed better as the official battle. But not, I think I should post the actual final battle in the game.

Here is Serge (white), Kid (red) and Grobyc (black) against the real Time Devourer (white), who is really Lavos and Schala merged together.

This battle is fought to get the best ending.

As many who played this game knows, there is no final boss music. Coming from Square who has some of the best final boss music ever (One-Winged Angel comes to mind), this was a shock. So instead, I added the music you hear at the end if you use the Chrono Cross in this fight. The song is 'Life - A Faraway Promise.' This should have been the actual music.

Serge and Kid and obvious choices, what with Serge as the main character and Kid fighting against her real self, but why Grobyc? Time Devourer is white inate, so I needed a strong black inate to fight here. Plus his LV 7 Tech is awesome.

There's no trick to this fight, unless you use the Chrono Cross. The boss has alot of HP, so it just comes down to mowing this thing down as fast as possible. Even though she is innate white, she uses alot of green and yellow elements. SO Serge has the green plate equipped and Kid has the yellow plate equipped (and boy, did that bite me on the ass, but it still worked out).

The fights pretty easy. The difficulty comes in to play if you want to win this fight the right way. First, Serge needs the Chrono Cross equipped (and its and LV 8 element, so you need to attack alot with him to bring his element level up). Now, you have to cast the correct order of elements before you use it. The main problem is that Time Devourer can ruin it, unless you let her help. And the elements used can be low-level ones, and its better if you do it that way (especially with Serge).

The color order is:
yellow
red
green
blue
black
white

which is the order you face the Dragon God after the first area change.

So I waited until its HP was low enough (doesn't make a difference, but makes the fight better) to cast a yellow element, here being OmegaYellow.

Then I had Serge use Fireball (red), followed with Kid and Bushwacker (green). Grobyc was going to cast blue, but Devourer beat me to it by casting OmegaBlue, killing Kid (since it was her opposite color). But this actually helped me becuase it doesn't matter who casts the color as long as it was cast and in order.

I was going to revive Kid, but I needed black first, so Grobyc casted GravityBlow for 3 HP (damage doesn't matter). Finally, Serge used Revive (white) to bring Kid back).

Now that the color order is correct, the final thing to use is the Chrono Cross. The problem is that Serge needs stamina and his element at LV 8 to cast. So Kid atacks to raise Serge's stamina and I switch back to Serge to attack once to bring it to 8 and cast Chrono Cross, ending the fight right there. Now Schala is free and that great music starts.

Please enjoy, even though I basically wrote the battle in the description.

  • Best RPG of 2000 :)

  • @piercecarradine Indeed, Cross's battle system is "balanced" compared to broken ones. Unfortunately I require more than just something what compares favorably to things less good than itself.

  • @Axelhander Bad gameplay? To each their own I suppose. There are broken battle systems to be found everywhere - CC's quite balanced in comparisson.

  • @piercecarradine Perhaps the Reptite dimension has more tolerance for laughable gameplay and fanfiction-level storytelling, but this isn't the Reptite dimension and I'm not impressed by trash.

  • @Axelhander Nah, Chrono Cross is pretty good. One of the best of its era, actually.

  • Chrono Cross is trash.

  • This song works wonders for this battle.... suck what they did there

  • @AraelXP I cried @ the end too! I also cried during the Tower of Geddon boss battle, when you fight Miguel..

  • @frozen222 Me too

  • Anyway, I love the ending, made me shed some tears.
