Climate science is not completely dependent on climate models. There are many threads of supporting evidence. Still, it is clear that climate models are telling us something important that we cannot afford to ignore. Includes references to http://pubs.giss.nasa.gov/abstracts/1978/Hansen_etal.html

  • Two problems 1) The other planets in our solar system heated and cooled with earth, so doesn't that mean there is a bigger force at work? 2) Did the "Hide the decline" e-mail throw doubt on how the graphs and data are compiled, as they SHOULD have said either "allow for" or "compensate for missing data" or something similar to that?

If someone wants to PM me answers or arguments, then please do so at your earliest convenience.

    "other planets' BS

It's amusing that the same people who say we can't know if the earth is warming, because the readings are bad, or not long enough, or evil NASA scientists are colluding to distort the data, will state with metaphysical certainty that that they know exactly what the temperature conditions on ALL the other planets are and have been, and then cite, of course, (their cokeyed, cherrypicked evidence from) the same NASA as proof.

  • @greenman3610 Thanks for the reply, and actually there's a few problems with those conclusions and I speak as an individual who is not incredibly well versed in stellar cartography. Firstly, there's the line that says that the explanations are actually speculations and unless there was some better instrumentation either in orbit or on the ground, then it's not possible to tell, orbits not withstanding.

That said, I always come back to "Why use taxes to solve a technological problem?"

  • @AussieGriffin

It's called celestial mechanics. The movements of earth's orbit are quite well understood, they have been measured by units in orbit, and we can see that they map out with changes in the planet over time, so unless the laws of physics are prone to change at whim, I'll go with that.

Your statement about taxation is totally not germane to orbital mechanics.

  • so with all this talk about some of the temperature drops over the last few decades being caused by volcanic eruptions, is it possible that the iceland volcanic eruption from last spring might be coupling with the current La Nina in the current "global cooling" over the last several months. If so, when do you expect the volcanic emissions to subside and allow the earth to resume its long term warming?

  • @metsfreak4life

there has been no drop in temperatures over the last few decades. See nasa data by googling

    nasa key indicators

The recent icelandic volcano was tiny compared to Pinatubo, and geographically at the wrong latitude to have a large effect.

  • @Astrostevo: Useless data is still useless, no matter if it is on the net or not. Real science is about gathering ACCURATE information, obtained under CONTROLLED methodologies. Given the urban heat island problem & the basic problem of no clear consistant standard for running these weather stations nor there being any method for checking & enforcing those stardards; your data set is WORTHLESS.

  • @VictorLepanto : Question for ya : You'd trust NASA's rocket scientists to build and fly their spacecraft wouldn't you? You'd trust NASA's flight surgeon to tell you if you're fit to fly aboard their spacecraft too, right? So why *NOT* trust NASA's climate specialists like say James Hansen when it comes to the field they have dedicated their lives to studying?

BTW Did you know that the raw data is all available freely if you want to look at it yourself & do your own maths?

  • @VictorLepanto : Dude, if you don't believe this how about you check with NASA's climate change and Earth Observatory pages or RealClimate? Of course theyare just, oh y'know, the *experts* who actually know what they're talking about.

  • Love the '2001 : A Space odyssey' ref at the start. Great clip thanks. :-)

  • Dude, You & Algore need to give it. How many embarrassments must this con endure b/f your lot moves to your next hustle? Are your lives so empty you must cling to this shabby religion? The problem w/ "green" politics is that it is not so much green as it is watermelon. As the socialist politics of controlling people through a massive central bureaucracy can no longer be defended on the supposed benefit to people, now you claim to be defending the Earth. Pure arrogance.

  • @AussieGriffin Not the fact that your sick obviously. Oops

  • @razzinsky I'll bookmark what I find on the web and read it. (Lucky for you I'm home sick.)

  • @metsfreak4life I love this debate. First time in years I find a real debate on something as broad as youtube . Awesome. Keep it up humans!!!! We need this!

  • @AussieGriffin Whole Earth Discipline ; Stewart Brand. Good start. Jared diamond never hurts either. Worth while. Trust me please.
