After Pillows and Prayers was released I wrote to Mike to tell him how brilliant it was.He wrote me a wonderful letter back and we continued to write for a while. He would send me free albums and signed band photos and also put me in touch with Lawrence from Felt. I went to stay with him in Barnes in London and met Vic Godard, and Ben Watt from Everything But The Girl, who lived in the flat above. Mike was a great bloke.Happy days.
never heard of this guy! but blimey he's so so so boring!
the 80's is universally acknowledged as the WORST period for 'pop' music EVER! so if this guy is responsible for any of it, well now I can understand why!
Interesting. I loved the late 80s and El records- they had so many good artists...King of Luxembourg, Louis Phillipe, Momus, Would be Goods, Monochrome Set, Always and more. I was poor student and an avid collector of the label in those days and remember finding it hard to source Louis Phillipe in the wee village where I lived, but el (Mike Alway I think) kindly sent up free copies. It was a nice gesture and I was so happy!
