A month after Austria attempted to stall Turkey's entry into the EU ,another aspirant member of the European club is facing a potential block.
Greece is threatening to veto the application of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedoniaunless it agrees to a mutally acceptable name.
The EU commission is expected to announce tomorrow (Nov9th) that it the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia should be accepted as a candidate nation.
Greece objects to its northern neighbour calling itself Macedonia,because it claims the title implies territorial ambitions over the Greek province of the same name.
From Salonica in Northern Greece,Malcolm Brabant reports.

Just for the record FYROM is Republic of PseudoMacedonia. I do not understand why we even discuss this. Are Americans today Indians just because they moved here. If Yes then they should be called Indians and not Americans. Then WHY the Slavs should be called Macedonians when they are everything else but nothing in common with Macedonians. Shame on them for not even be proud of theis Slavic identity.

Alexander the great and his Macedonians were Greeks, thats history,because Alexander was from his father Heracledian from Karanos and from his mother Aiakedes from Neoptolemos, so from Achilles too, and the Macedonians were from the generation of Hercules,(so Heracleans) the known Dorians as it is written in history for more than 2500 years!There for Macedonia is Greece and a Macedonian can only be a Greek.

Just out of curiosity, Brabant can say 'reporting from Macedonia, Greece' (and there would be nothing wrong with that, even if he supports FYRO$ to be called "Macedonia" as the Greek region is officially called Macedonia and he is a formal journalist) but says "Northern Greece" whenever he has the chance...guess why

Also only 3% of FYROM's territory was a part of the ancient Macedonian kingdom, not all of it or a significant portion of it as some people like to define the "Macedonian region' in modern post-Ottoman times. Like socratis904 said FYRO"M" = Paionian territory, not Macedonian terriotry. This alone should should be enough proof of who is stealing who's history and who TRULY is preventing the self-determination of Macedonians (ie Greeks)

The FYROMians are Slav Bulgarians, they live in Paeonea and Darnadia, having in their geographic territory only about 5% of the historical Macedonia.

The Slav Bulgarians came to the Balkans at 580 AD, from the north.

The Bulgarians after the orders of the Russians before the revolution of the Bolsevics,they created this "Macedonian nation", because they wanted to have a free way to the "warm waters" as it is still said.
