Bill and Blackies brake was where the W&OD trail and Ashburn Rd. intersect. At this intersection is a little place called Carolina Brothers Pit Barbeque. While we waited for Bill, Brenda and I ate some great food and visited with Danny Hurdle and his family. Mr. Hurdle talked to me about his business, the history behind the building which he now owns.

When Bill arrived Mr. Hurdle showed him some family pictures. Bill was then presented with a huge plate of food. Carolina Brothers makes a vinegar based "North Carolina style" sauce which has a unique flavor. Needless to say Bill wasn't hungry for the rest of the day.

  • I remember when this was a little yellow shack called Partlows. Ashburn Road was gravel, so was Hay Road. Stone Bridge HS was a field of cows.

  • va bbq is better.

  • You aren't lying about that! I grew up in Eastern NC and let me tell you, I love a pig pickin'. My grandmother is known for her rolling pit that she can transport from one place to another. I can hold a 500 pound hog cut open and spread. I love it. They don't want to sell the sauce in stores because they like to keep it to themselves. Plus the best sauces are family secrets or die with people. It's the south. What can I say...

  • wow. that looks good

  • East N. Carolina BBQ sauce is the best! You can't buy it in grocery stores...why I don't know.

    2 cups cider vinegar

    1 Tbs brown sugar

    1 Tbs cayenne pepper

    1 Tbs Tabasco sauce

    1 tsp salt

    1 tsp pepper

Add some crushed red pepper if you can .

*To temper the bite for delicate palates, add some store-bought BBQ sauce. It'll thicken the sauce and keep the kids from eating from puckering!

  • here I was thinking i was going to see some CAROLINA BBQ.....these ol' boys are from North Carolina.

  • I go here all the time.

  • Great video! Good quality too!

  • AWESOME awesome Food and great price too! :)

  • Wonderful! This barbeque is great. The video captures the down home feeling of Carolina Brothers BBQ and the good folks who run it.
