Educational publicity newsreel made by the New York Central Railroad showing the activities of the railroad in the early 1950's. Trains with diesel, electric and steam locomotives are seen in operation as well as some behind the scenes activities. Naturally you'll see scenes of the famous named trains of the NYC such as the "20th Century Limited", "Commodore Vanderbilt" and "Pacemaker".

The New York Central Railroad, known simply as the New York Central in its publicity, was a railroad operating in the Northeastern United States. Headquartered in New York, the railroad served most of the Northeast, including extensive trackage in the states of New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, and Massachusetts, plus additional trackage in the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec. The railroad primarily connected greater New York and Boston in the east with Chicago and St.Louis in the midwest along with the intermediate cities of Albany, Buffalo, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Detroit. The NYC's Grand Central Terminal in New York City is one of its best known extant landmarks.
This is a great video. I know it was intended as an promotional item, but I think there is a whole section of the general public that needs to see this. Maybe it would help them see the value of our great railroad system. I stop and enjoy the passing of trains. Most people just complain about the noise and delays at grade crossings.

Amazing. Saddening to think of the state that the USA is in now.......and then watching this video showing what an incredibly prosperous, resourceful nation America once was. Our railroads were second to none!
