This song is a pure stroke of genius. Literary and relevant. It's about government, it's about religion, all spun into the Branch Davidian - Justice Department standoff narrative in Waco Tx. I remember seeing it all on TV when I was 13. A bunch of naive, but innocent people holed up in a compound with the full bore of the US government bearing down on them. The whole thing was horrifying, regardless of what you think about Janet Reno's decision or David Koresh. Complete tragedy on all sides.

This song is being used by a portuguese tv channel called "sic radical" to promote their tv shows.
Like me many other people had the luck to know this song.

I'd put Mighty Joe Moon in my 20 favourite albums of all time. No one weak track. My acoustic guitar is tuned a semi-tone down permanently as a result and I love playing it fuzzed out through my amp. A big influence is Grant-Lee on this humble guitar player!

Eddie Vedder wishes he had a voice this amazing. He's got a good voice, but I don't know if I can think of anyone with a voice that rivals Grant's. Not many singers can give me the chills like him.
