Yes it is a fully alive rat with a mind of it's own. Rats have a pleasure center in the brain that they put part of the implant into. Rats will do ANYTHING to have this stimulated, they find rats will cross electric grids to have the pleasure center stimulated that starving rats wouldn't cross for food. The rat works to have the pleasure spot stimulated, much like a dog does tricks for treats
