At the very end of 2007, we were happy to adopt Maggie, a sweet brown Standard Poodle. She is at least 12 years old, blind, deaf, and suffers with arthritis. Poodle Rescue was having some trouble finding a family for this ol' girl. But we brought her home and Maggie has turned out to be a real sweetheart. All she wants is to get lots of loving from us and to take lot of naps. She loves to greet my husband's patients at the door and she is such a gentle soul that everyone is happy to meet her.

Arizona Poodle Rescue is an all-volunteer organization. They do not have a shelter. Their dogs are fostered in private homes in the Phoenix and Tucson area. These kind-hearted volunteers humble me with their gracious dedication to protecting these beautiful dogs. They want nothing more than to help place them into loving Forever Homes.

  • how is maggie doing today?she is very pretty.reminds me of my back 8 lb poodle Francis

  • @rukahatake I'm afraid that our sweet Maggie passed away after living with us about a year and a half. She was very very old when she came to us, and we were just so happy that she stayed as long as she did. She seemed to be very happy with us! And she quickly learned to boss our younger poodle, Poco, around. She was the Queen of the House!

  • Thanks everybody! We are the lucky ones.... Maggie is such a doll and as the months go by, we fall more and more in love with her.

I hope that folks will remember to check in with the dog rescue groups when it comes time to add another member to the family. There are rescue organizations for all the breeds (as far as I know!) and they are so great to work with. Every single dog that we've gotten through Rescue has been an absolute sweetheart.

Maybe they "Rescue" us right back!

  • What a lovely lady, and top marks to you and your family for giving her a new lease on life and making her last year and a half what surely must have been her very best. Merry Christmas!

  • I got both my MiniPoodles fro Poodles and Pals Rescue in Southern California---god Bless rescuers and foster homes!!!

  • She is Beautiful! god bless

  • She's so beautifull! I have a Blacl standard poodle that came from a mill and we think that she might be going deaf so we started using and signals with her. I hope that sh is with you a long time. Love and God less you and your family.

  • What a beautiful, sweet dog. I love to hear stories about older rescue dogs. What a blessing she must be...

  • Bless you for welcoming Maggie into your home. We have 3 standard Poodles from the Florida Poodle rescue that we adore. They are so intelligent and loving. One of our new ones is 9 years old with some issues but he's "come a long way baby' with good food and tons of love!

  • What a great forever home Maggie now has, thanks to your kindness! I have frequently referred friends looking for dogs to adopt, to go through animal rescue leagues and not through breeders. All my dogs, including my standard poodle, Elliott, have come to me in some form of rescue. And you are right- they rescue us in return.
