Here's Marty doing a song that was in his 'Marty Robbins' LP released way back in December 1958 that makes it 50 years old exactly. He had done some highly successful sessions with Ray Conniff and Mitch Miller around this time, but stayed true to his Country music roots to turn out an album that even today still holds up as one of the very best of the genre.
All three arms of the American services had programmes such as this that would serve as a showcase for Country music talent and to encourage enlistment in those forces. I wonder if they had them for any other genre of music. I doubt it somehow.

  • Although often attributed to Marty as the writer, this song was written by E W "Tiny" Stokes, who lived for many years in Helena, Montana. It alternately was known as Jodie and was recorded by a few other besides Marty. He and Marty kept in touch over the years.

  • if i remember right my uncle Tiny Stokes first wife was named Judy . He taught her how to play drums too . Been awhile .lol. First time i seen someone play it . cool video !!!!

  • @mrfiddleman Wow.... My Uncle Les claims he wrote this... which I believe he did... He wrote it, but needed money and sold the song to I thought Marty, but the name Tiny Stokes sounds familiar as well.... He has long since passed, so I can't get it from him.... I posted some videos of my uncle on youtube of him playing WITH marty.... Look up either Les Booth or Quinine Gumstump to see them...

  • That Jimmy Farmer steel is the best

  • Has anyone got a audio copy of this?

  • Thanks!
