Dunno how far in the match this is but shes hitting in open stance way too much. Those aren't fast balls so she should definately be stepping in for more power and control. Especially if she goes crosscourt.
you know I believe in that also, but the thing seems to be OPEN all the time. I think you combine open with closed stances to maximize. BECAUSE you can't hit an open and move in...
Whatever footwork pattern you choose at that particular part of the court is situational. If she hit a lot of open stances in that point, she probably felt that was the best stance for the type of incoming ball and her purpose to rotate and dictate the point with her forehand. Ask yourself what type of ball is she receiving. Did she have time to step into a couple of those, yes. Was it wrong not to no. I have another suggestion of what I saw...
open stance is the way pros hit not for the difference in power, it's about the recovery. pro level it's all about movement. if you hit anything closed stance, it's two steps to recover...and that's bad... so if you play someone like me--i hit open on my forehand but closed on my backhand...it's two step recovery on my backhand, which opens up the corner
Hmmm
