This video is part of a 2 week trip to Pontos in 1997 organised by author George Andreadis. It was our second last day in Istanbul . Our group had a church service with the Ecumenical Patriarch, after that we went into the adjoining hall to listen to some speeches (which took forever).

Giannis Nikolaidis played Lyra/kemence whilst Vasilis Fotiadis sang "Parthen I Romania" about the fall of the Roman/Byzantine empire and the taking of the Poly (City). Then my sister and I had the opportunity to perform the Pyrrhic dance Serra (it was odd for them to see a girl dance) ....

  • This was a most enjoyable dance duo. It was exciting and they danced in sync beautifully. Remember the Spartan woman of ancient Greece did partake in gymnastics and dance... for me it is only natural for a woman to be as passionate in a Greek dance as her male dance partner.

  • @TheArtistdancer Thanks, I'll let my sister know!

  • Great Pontic dance !

  • The only time I have ever seen a woman dance the male part. Very accomplished. i But I think if I were a monk in front of these people, I go home being too distracted by the thought of the woman. She is dancing totally innocently, of course. And this would be an astounding display of talent in a local festival. But what comes out as vigorous strength for war in a man's body becomes .... oddly enough .....too suggestive in front of celibate clergy, due to the shaking of the shoulders, etc.

  • @alexgeit86 İstanbul is the known nae for this city.Constantinople and İslambol are another ones !

  • Ecumenical Canons precisely forbid to the clergy to dance in public.
