@Mujangga The Uyghurs did have a chance for independence during the ROC period just before communist rule, but they were having to rely on Soviet assistance to stand up against the Chinese. This means that if China had not taken control of what had been East Turkestan at the time, the area most likely would have become part of the USSR. Are you really saying that the Russians would have treated them much better than the Chinese?

I'll give you a reason: Uyghurstan is in China as much as India was in Britain. You speak of harmony but you don't mention that it comes at the price of killing people who want their freedom and sending millions of Han to outnumber the Uyghur in their own country where they face discrimination and live as second class citizen: nice harmony!
