10/9/2009......Running about 45 minutes late, eastbound Amtrak #50, the Cardinal, crosses the New River at Hawks Nest State Park in West Virginia. P42 #61 is pulling 3 coaches, a cafe car, and a Viewliner.

This is the bridge visible from the overlook off US Rte. 60.

  • @SuperNJTRANSIT Thank you! This is on West Virginia's only Amtrak route, and the "ordinary Joe" around here would have no clue how I got here. Soon the train will be going under the New River Gorge bridge that is featured on our state quarter.

The waterway is the New River, that drains to the north from the mountains of North Carolina. The New River is said by some to be the oldest river in the United States.....quite ironic for the name, huh?

    Thanks for watching!!

  • @dumbasscracker Never too old to admit when I've misspoke!! Yes, the Capitol does run along the eastern edge of the state, and I often forget it, since it only makes 2 stops in less than the hour or so it is inside the state's borders.

Thanks for the correction....and for watching!

  • awesome bridge, nice video!
