Westwood opened up in 1970/80 when it was a fully functional theater. Gradually, this area was booming with business until Queensway and Sherway Theater moved into Toronto to serve a movie theater, this only plunged Westwood into neglect. When it closed it's doors in 1998, some people were and still do pay power for the location, however only the front of the theater is lit up while the rest is defunct. Today, brochures still lie in the denture clinic, and doors are still locked to keep vandals out of the semi-abandoned theater. Thermometers (or erasable pens or pencils,WHO KNOWS!) still lie in front of the deserted parking lot. The theater closed December 31st to serve as a TTC parking lot. This run down theater has plans for courtrooms this summer.

  • I remember watching Police Academy here with my aunt and cousins when I was 9 years old - June 1984.

  • Do you know of any more defunct or closed down cinémas and theaters? I'm doing a research. Here in montreal we have tons :-(

  • the first movie i ever saw was at the westwood. toy story during its original run back in the 90s.

  • you had a tripod, next time USE IT, it makes it so much better for the viewer, not to mention enjoyable. 2 stars for effort.
