  • Sometimes, the argument and counter-argument are equally true. It may be that she was hopelessly self-destructive and he was ruthlessly exploiting.

Her eyes, like the smile of the Cheshire cat - they'd be there if her face vanished.

  • @kitana72j Yeah, the 1960s happened so quickly, probably because such a lot was going on at the same time, in parallel. And so, various styles in music, clothes, hair, thinking etc were superseded by new things all the time.

I don't think Andy was responsible for Edie's demise. She was very disturbed long before she even arrived in New York City in the summer of 1964. She should never have been left alone with all that money and a shiny new apartment.

  • @kitana72j The main reason Edie became so terribly dependent on drugs was that she had emotional and mental problems of a higher magnitude, and that she really had nowhere to go. And that methamphetamine, dextroamphetamine, barbiturates and heroin are terribly addictive to anyone, let alone a girl like Edie. And she was inundated by the whole thing. She was extremely unstable and sensitive, fragile. She was doomed from the start and she knew it.

  • @kitana72j There might be a lot of stuff buried in the vaults of media companies that we don't know about, or in private drawers and boxes, down in the basements or up in the attics. Some of it may be at the Andy Warhol Foundation. About Andy, I think he was a catalyst, he gave those people a sense of purpose, somewhere to hang around. Bob Dylan has said he knew Edie, of course, but that there was no relationship between them. I think that is correct.

  • @MowgliX thank u for sending me a friend invite. its so nice 2 have someone 2 share thoughts and feelings about edie and the 60's. i know what u mean about so little surviving that time. u are so right about the culture of that time. what do u think of andy warhol? do feel like a lot of people that he was at the heart of her demise? im not sure how i feel about that but i understand how others feel that way. im curious as to how u feel about it. also do u think bob dylan was a factor?

  • @kitana72j Yes, I think that's exactly what Edie said. Her voice certainly had personality and charm. But the thing is so very little material has survived or surfaced about Edie. In those days this was seen as sort of one way, single use, throw away culture. Only bits and pieces of it all survived. And Edie was a part of this phenomenon of instant celebrity. She was a superstar for a very short time in 1965-66, but by the late summer of '67 she was already slipping off the edge into the abyss.

  • @MowgliX yes i love her voice 2! it's so milky with a little rasp 2 it. i even love how she chain smoked. i read that she loved the tightness in her chest from smoking. i can relate as i chain smoke as well... but i am quitting very soon, lol. she was a woman of such grace and elegance but she could be down 2 earth too. and her dancing! i could watch her lose herself in a dance all day. like she said, " i've just got to dance some things out..." i hope i quoted her correctly. lol take care

  • @kitana72j I love hearing her voice. It's so sooting. There was so much going on in the 1960s, and the decade went by at super speed. My only wish is that time travel was invented... Edie was a girl who in a way was aware that she was a burning sensation, but she was very insecure and so fragile.

  • @MowgliX wow i feel the exact same way. i am so obsessed with the sixties and edie sedgwick. i was born in 72 so i feel so unfortunate not 2 have experienced such an amazing era. so elated 2 find countless photos and videos of edie, the music at the time, the clothes. i agree with verlisse though about some of the pics flashin by a bit 2 fast. i as well had 2 pause some of them 2 get a full view. but all in all its a great video. much appreciated.
