There was a local Saginaw Michigan band by the same name "Purple Gang". They were around during the same era - late 60s.

That stupid BBC,and so sad for the Gang ,cause this could've been just as big as "In The Summertime"

I wondered if this song could possibly be on youtube and it is!!!!!! I have not heard this for 42.....yes, 42 years , I was 9 when it came out and it's always been swimming in the back of my head somewhere.....THANKYOU for putting it on here.

Hey. They played alongside the Floyd (Pink was added later) in top venues (late 1960's and early 70's)! Yea, a jug band - and great. They had contracts pending with UK and US record companies when the BBC made that heinous mistake... banning "Granny Takes a Trip" on a base misconception.
"Granny Takes a Trip" was also a men's outfitters in London. The song was written, it needed a title and they shopped there... the rest is history.

They were a bunch of bad guys, mainly of Jewish extraction, operating between Chicago and Detroit back in the late 1920s. Involved in extortion, murder, racketeering and most things. Not the sort of people you should be associating with, young Lee!
