  • It is a bit more complicated than that. On certain slopes with a narrow top, and a similar profile on the down wind side as the up wind side, there is a band of horizontal vortex turbulence. Dynamic soaring makes use of the energy this rotating turbulence has by allowing you to gain energy by flying in continuous lift, and thus converting it to speed, like continously diving.

  • It works by flying in differing air speeds at different altitudes. You fly on the back side of the slope. In the circuit you fly, you are using the wind coming over the top of the hill to generate energy, then you are dropping below that wind into still/slower air to complete your circuit.

  • Can someone explain to me how this works?!
