On Wednesday 28 September, Leeds College of Music will officially become the only English conservatoire to hold All-Steinway School status and is staging a grand unveiling of its multi-million pound refurbishment with a one of a kind performance from an ensemble of 40 pianists.

Representatives from LCoM visited Hamburg on Wednesday 31st August 2011 to handpick a fleet of pianos at Steinway & Sons. Leeds College of Music Principal, Professor Philip Meaden, and Director of Curriculum and Research, Dr Randall Whittaker were joined on their trip to the Hamburg-based factory by a team of experts and internationally recognised musicians. Dame Fanny Waterman, founder of Leeds International Pianoforte Competition and world-renowned piano teacher joined prominent German pianist Wolfgang Manz and Trevor Green, director of the Australian Academy of Music and Head of Music at BBC North, to select the prestigious pianos.

Leeds College of Music's upgrade to an All Steinway School has been made possible partly thanks to a generous donation from the Liz and Terry Bramall Foundation. The donation has been crucial in enabling Leeds College of Music to undertake the transformational project.
