In this 2-part interview (audio and video), I speak with Edward L. Kimball: son of the late LDS Prophet Spencer W. Kimball. Edward Kimball is a retired law professor from Brigham Young University, and author of two biographies on Spencer W. Kimball: Spencer W. Kimball and Lengthen Your Stride, the Presidency of Spencer W. Kimball. Edward has also been an active supporter over the years of both Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought and Sunstone magazine. In this interview, we discuss:

What it's like to grow up the son of an LDS Prophet
An intimate look at Edward's impressions of President Kimball
The 1978 Blacks and the Priesthood Revelation and the Equal Rights Amendment fight within the church
Thoughts in reconciling the intellect with faith and the spirit

  • The silly questions, negative, looking for 'dirt', that John Dehlin asked Bro. Kimball were very telling of where Dehlin is in his life. If he had simply let Bro. Kimball speak this would have been an amazing interview. Dehlin is clearly not an intellectual, he's just a soon to be ex-mormon if he's not already. His true colors come through.

  • thats my great Grandpa Edward.

  • @NatishaAngell I agree. Dehlin asked if he felt anyone could have been the prophet or if he felt that President Kimball was set apart. Of course, he was foreordained to be the prophet.

  • I do not agree with the interviewer's way of asking questions. He seems to be continually trying to pull something negative out of the conversational instead of focusing on the good and positive. If this was changed i think this interview would've been great. I do enjoy the things Edward had to say and i have great admiration for his father Spencer W. Kimball
